Slide Rock State Park Entrance Fee and Tickets (2026)

Slide Rock runs two hour blocks a year, not a fixed daily schedule. From January 31 to November 21, the gate opens at 8:00 am and the park closes at 6:00 pm, with entry and the swim area itself cutting off an hour earlier, at 5:00 pm, and last entry is one hour before whichever closing time applies. From November 22 to January 30, the whole schedule shifts an hour later at the open and earlier at the close: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, swim area closing at 4:00 pm. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve run a short 9:00 am to 2:00 pm day, and the park is fully closed on Christmas Day.

The $30-to-$20 price drop on August 22, 2026 does not line up with either hours change; it is purely a fee-schedule date on the park's own price list. A visit on August 21 pays the higher rate, a visit the next morning pays the lower one, same hours both days.

Five lines for planning an arrival

• Peak season (through Nov 21): gate 8:00 am, park closes 6:00 pm, swim area closes 5:00 pm.
• Winter season (Nov 22-Jan 30): gate 9:00 am, park closes 5:00 pm, swim area closes 4:00 pm.
• Last entry is always one hour before the park's closing time, whichever season applies.

Slide Rock does not publish a vehicle count that triggers a closure, but its own facility page is explicit about the effect: "Visitors may not line up along the driveway or highway prior to park opening or if parking lot is full." Read plainly, that means the small on-site lot is the real limit on a summer day, not the posted hours, and a car turned away at a full lot has no queue to join and no second entrance to try.

The park is vehicle-entry only. Walk-ins, bicycles and drop-offs are prohibited at the gate; whoever is in the vehicle is who gets counted for the $30 or $20 fee, and there is no way to skip the fee by arriving on foot from a nearby pullout. Because the lot, not the clock, decides who gets in on a summer weekend, the only strategy this guide can state with a source behind it is arriving at the stated opening time; there is no official standby list, text alert or live capacity counter published for Slide Rock the way some national parks now offer.

This table is this guide's own routing advice, built from the hours and the lot-closure fact above; Arizona State Parks does not publish a recommended arrival time itself.

General entry has no reservation system; every visitor pays at the gate on arrival, on a first-come basis limited only by the lot. Two things can be booked ahead, and only two.

The two ramadas

• Two shaded group ramadas, each holding about 50 people, at $95 per reservation.
• Cancellations 30 days or less before the reservation date are not refunded.
• Ramadas cannot be booked for the stretch from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day Monday, the park's busiest window.

Everything else is first-come

Fifteen open-air picnic areas are unreserved, available to whoever arrives and claims one. There is no separate swim-area reservation, no timed entry slot and no advance ticket of any kind for a normal day visit; the per-vehicle fee at the gate is the entire transaction.

The gate takes Visa and Mastercard, and the park's own page says it "strongly" prefers card over cash; a cash payment must be exact change, since the entry station does not describe a change-making process for a driver arriving with a large bill. Nothing on the facility page mentions a mobile-wallet option separately from card, so plan on a physical card if paying at the gate rather than counting on a tap-to-pay app icon.

There is no published group or school rate. A single vehicle with more than 4 adults pays the standard $30 or $20 base fee plus $5 for every adult past the fourth, whether that vehicle is a family SUV or a rented van; a group arriving in several cars pays the per-vehicle fee on each one separately, with no multi-car discount stated anywhere on azstateparks.com. Anyone organizing a larger outing should budget per vehicle, not per person, and expect to queue behind whichever cars are ahead at the single entry station.

Slide Rock is run by Arizona State Parks, not the Forest Service or the National Park Service, and its fee sits outside both of those pass systems entirely.

The $200 Arizona State Parks Annual Day-Use Pass, sold at azstateparks.com, is the only pass this guide found that legitimately substitutes for the per-vehicle gate fee, and its own page describes weekend and holiday access for up to four people rather than an unlimited-visit pass; anyone considering it should confirm the exact terms on the reservations page before assuming it beats paying at the gate a handful of times.
